Research Interests
Parvathi Mohan, MBBS is the director of Hepatology and an attending physician in the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC. She did her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 1985 to 1988 and then joined the Children’s National staff as assistant professor in Pediatrics at George Washignton University in 1988. She worked on the role of glutathione in bile synthesis in the rat model under the guidance of Dr. John Watkins during the fellowship and later published her work in Hepatology in 1994. She continued with her research on biliary copper excretion and glutathione and published her research in Hepatology in 1995. Since 1996 her interests have shifted to clinical research and she has actively involved herself in various research projects (pharmacy and National Institutes of Health sponsored) since then. Her special interests include treatment of hepatitis B and C and steatohepatitis in children. Three research papers which she has authored/ co-authored have been recently published, or accepted for publication, in the Journal of Pediatrics and Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition . Dr. Mohan was promoted to the rank of associate professor at the George Washington Univeristy in 2003.
