Research Interests
Catherine J. Klein, PhD, RD, directs the Bionutrition Research Program in the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Children's National Medical Center. She manages the nutrition research services for GCRC scientific investigations. These services include the development of protocols for nutrition-related subject screening, dietary interventions, metabolic meal studies, diet analysis, and nutrition education. Prior to joining Children's National, she served as a senior staff scientist at the Life Sciences Research Office, Inc (LSRO) in Bethesda, MD, where she facilitated the translation of research findings for policy and program purposes for the FDA, USDA, U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, and others. She served as editor for several LSRO reports including reports on preterm infant formula, adverse event monitoring systems for dietary supplements, and resuscitation fluids and adjunct therapies for use in combat. She is a registered dietitian, a Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian, and is certified by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) in both Adult Weight Management and in Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management. Dr. Klein is a member of the American Society for Nutrition and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
