Research Interests
Yewande J. Johnson, MD, is a pediatric anesthesiologist specializing in Pain Medicine. At present she is an assistant professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She holds a bachelors degree in chemistry and Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her training in anesthesiology at the University of Alabama Hospitals (Birmingham, AL). After completing a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s National Medical Center, she stayed on as a staff member in the Division of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. In 2006 she was awarded an NIH-sponsored Mentored Specialized Clinical Investigator Development Award in Pediatric Pharmacology. Her research interests include studying the pharmacogenetics of opioid metabolism and sickle cell disease-related pain.
