Clinical Trials
Children’s Research Institute (CRI) is a leader in medical research and education programs and is the academic arm of Children’s National Medical Center. As part of CRI’s mission, experts work to improve prevention, treatment, and care of childhood diseases through basic and clinical research and education. More than 300 scientists conduct research to better understand childhood diseases. This means that we can continually apply our findings to clinical methods at the bedside, and constantly provide world-class care for children.
Children’s National offers ongoing opportunities for participation in research studies, including clinical trials, in which clinical researchers analyze the effectiveness and safety of new medications or medical devices by monitoring their effects on large groups of people. For researchers interested in learning more about our clinical research, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Children’s National has more information.
If you have a concern about the science of a specific research study or clinical trial and the steps involved, you have the right to talk about it with the Principal Investigator of your child’s study. If you have concerns about how the research is being done, and your rights as a research subject, you can talk to a professional who is independent of the research study (he/she is not part of the research study team) through the manager of the Office for the Protection of Human Subjects at 301-565-8470 or the Research Subject Advocate, Tomas Silber, MD, at 202-476-3066. Please contact either to share questions or concerns, to learn more about a research subjects’ rights, or to offer input on how research processes can work better.
