Research Funding
Children’s Research Institute oversees all of the research undertaken at Children’s National Medical Center, including translationa l, clinical, and community research efforts.
Almost all research conducted at Children’s is funded by grants. In 2006, Children’s current research grants portfolio totaled more than $60 million. Half of that $60 million comes from federal funding via the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Children’s Research Institute is the ninth-highest funded pediatric research institution in the country in terms of NIH funding. It ranks sixth in the country for NIH funding among children’s hospitals.
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is the office responsible for sponsored research at Children’s National Medical Center. The OSP provides assistance with grant budget preparation, interpretation of sponsor guidelines, review for compliance with institution and sponsoring agency requirements, contract negotiations, account set-up, post-award administration, financial reporting, and closeouts.
