Muscle Physiology

Muscle has a tremendous capacity to adapt to physiological cues, such as activity, diet, stress, and other stimuli. The capacity for muscle to remodel, coupled with the relatively easy access to tissue from normal volunteers and muscle disease patients, makes muscle a tissue of choice for large-scale biology (genomics, mRNA profiling, proteomics). Drs. Eric P. Hoffman, PhD, Yi-Wen Chen, PhD, and Yetrib Hathout, MS, PhD, have a large series of national and international collaborations on understanding normal muscle physiology, including reaction of muscle to damaging contractions, aerobic conditioning and diet. A series of publications on these and other muscle physiology topics have appeared over the last year by center investigators.
