Community Based Studies
The Center for Health Services and Community Research seeks to characterize the circumstances, behaviors, risk status, and health of children and their families in the context of their communities. In general, these investigations build on a public health model, and they recognize how social forces contribute to health and/or vulnerability to disease. Furthermore, community-based studies are often designed to identify what social factors are protective in disadvantaged populations. Many of these studies are bi-directional, drawing on the expertise of the populations under investigation. Examples include the Center’s studies in maternal depression, youth violence, violence exposure among young mothers and provider patient communication.
