Brain Tumor Consortium
A significant new initiative at Children's in clinical neuro-oncology (Tobey J. MacDonald, MD, and Brian R. Rood, MD) during the past year stems from the NIH-sponsored Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium (PBTC) mandate to include innovative biologic studies with all clinical protocols in an attempt to improve our understanding of brain tumor pathophysiology, discover new biomarkers and ultimately measure the efficacy of novel therapeutics. Given our research initiatives at Children's, this mandate has directly led to our status as principal investigator for two of the 12 PBTC national trials (anti-integrin agent and anti-EGFR agent) and has fostered the PBTC CSF proteomics core facility. Dr. MacDonald has also been elected to Co-Chair the PBTC Biology Committee.
