Gender Variance Issues Research

Investigators at the Center for Clinical and Community Research work with doctors in the Gender and Sexuality Psychosocial Programs to provide clinical care and conduct research involving better care of children, adolescents, and their families dealing with gender identity and other sexual variance issues. The program offers individual evaluations and counseling; a monthly support group for parents; a peer group for children; a professionally moderated, online list-serve reaching more than 200 families; and community outreach through presentations and advocacy.

Children’s National’s Children's Gender and Sexuality Advocacy and Education Program also reaches out to families and educates professionals to support children who do not fit society's standard definition of masculinity/femininity or sexual orientation. The goal of the program is to allow these children to thrive and develop a strong and positive sense of themselves and their own talents and capacities.
