Center for Molecular Physiology Research

The Center for Molecular Physiology Research advances the understanding of molecular and physiological pathways involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular and renal diseases in children and young adults.

Through the study of genetic causes of renal diseases including those associated with HIV/AIDS, essential hypertension, and salt-sensitivity, the center aims to promote the development of better diagnostic and treatment strategies that are tailored to the specific genetic make up of an individual. The availability of "pre-disease" genetic information will allow early intervention in children. Life style changes early in life may become part of the behavior which could reduce the severity, limit the complications, and delay or even prevent the onset of disease entirely.

Faculty
Center director Pedro Jose, MD, PhD, and Associate Director Patricio Ray, MD, lead a collaborative research team of experts with distinguished academic backgrounds.
