Biomarkers of Disease (Renal and Hypertension)
The Center for Molecular Physiology seeks to locate any early indicator for renal disease and hypertension, in order to diagnose underlying hypertension as soon as possible. If identified, treatments can be targeted before the symptoms of these disorders have devastating effects on the body.
Biomarkers of Renal Disease
Xiaoyan Wang, MD, PhD, tests the hypothesis that specific urinary exosomes which contain specific proteins such as angiotensin receptor and renal sodium transporters can be used as biomarkers of essential hypertension and metabolic syndrome.
Hypertension
The University of Virginia and Dr. Jose test the hypothesis that renal proximal tubule cells, cells that make up the tubes of the kidney, cultured from urine can be used as biomarkers for the cause of hypertension and can gauge a response to treatment.
