Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU)
Investigators at the Center for Clinical and Community Research's PPRU are working to improve the labeling of old and new drugs used to treat neonates, infants, children, and adolescents to guarantee the safe and effective use of medicines in the pediatric population. To accomplish this, the PPRU at Children's National combines basic, translational, and clinical research in the following areas of interest and expertise:
- Preterm and fullterm neonates
- Children and adolescents with HIV/AIDS
- Psychiatric disorders
- Infectious diseases
- Hypertension
- Pediatric pain
- Duchenne muscular dystrophy
- Inborn errors of metabolism
The researchers at Children's National are part of a 13-site national NIH-funded PPRU network, collaborating with other academic centers, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and pharmaceutical industry.
