Medical Errors

Led by Anthony D. Slonim, MD, MPH, the Center for Health Services and Community Research has strong interests in the area of patient safety and medical errors in hospitalized children. Dr. Slonim uses large administrative datasets, sophisticated statistical techniques and assessment tools imported from the disciplines of engineering, nuclear power and aviation to further understand the relationships contributing to increased rates of medical errors during hospitalization. HIs work is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to assess the risks related to blood product transfusions in hospitalized children using a technique known as probabilistic risk assessment.
