  #GamifyAsthma Design Challenge
July 16, 2013

As part of its summer program, Health for America is pleased to announce the #GamifyAsthma Design Challenge in partnership with Children’s National Medical Center. The goal of this hackathon-style challenge is to create a game that appeals to children ages 5-12, and encourages those with asthma to use their inhalers. The event brings together technologists and designers from all backgrounds, including those without healthcare experience, to plan, design, and build a website or application in eight hours. Participants will present their creations to a panel of judges that includes children with asthma. Participants will compete for a top prize of $2,500, as well as second and third prizes of $1,500 and $1,000. The Hackathon will take place on Saturday July 20, 2013 from 8:30am-6:30pm, located at 1133 15th Street NW Washington, DC 20005

This unique and exciting event presents an opportunity to apply disruptive mobile technologies to greatly improve the health of vulnerable children.  “The depth of expertise at Children’s National has been invaluable in this effort.” said Dr. Kapil Parakh, co-founder of Health for America. “Their experience with innovative approaches to childhood asthma, as well as deep roots with the local community have helped direct our efforts for maximal impact.”

“Health for America’s commitment to improving health outcomes for children with asthma in the Washington, DC, area through the use of innovative technologies and using a community inclusive approach perfectly aligns with our commitment to thinking differently while never forgetting who we serve,”  Ivor Horn,MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s National and advisor to Health for America.
