September 28, 2010
Washington, DC — Children’s National Medical Center is pleased to announce that its new satellite emergency department at United Medical Center is now open. The state-of-the art, full service emergency department will treat many of the same kinds of emergencies that are treated at Children’s National’s emergency department at the main hospital building on Michigan Avenue.
“The Children’s Emergency Department team is known throughout metropolitan Washington, DC, as delivering high quality care for all children who need emergency treatment,” said David Wessel, MD, senior vice president of Hospital-Based Specialties at Children’s National. “This satellite emergency department at United Medical Center will bring the care that families have come to expect from us closer to home for the children who live in southeast Washington, DC.”
The new facility is 10,800 square feet and will be open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. At least 55 patients will be seen daily by pediatric board-certified physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other clinical care team members from Children’s National. The Emergency Department at the Children’s main campus — at 111 Michigan Ave., NW — one of the city’s busiest emergency departments, remains open for families 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as well.
“I recently wrapped up a training session with the physicians who will be working here, and we are excited and ready to open the doors,” said Sephora Morrison, MD, medical director of Children’s National’s Emergency Department at United Medical Center. “Many of us are rotating through both emergency departments, so children in this community will have the same type and quality of care that they are accustomed to receiving at our Michigan Avenue location.”
The pediatric Children’s National Emergency Department at United Medical Center is located at 1310 Southern Avenue, SE.
