Children's Opens Second Operating Room in Montgomery County

Washington, DC—Children’s National Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening of its second operating room (OR) in the Montgomery County Ambulatory Surgery Center in Rockville. This new OR has all the benefits of Children’s main campus in Washington, in a location convenient for families living outside the Beltway. Children’s performs more than 12,000 surgeries annually, and 62 percent are done on an outpatient basis.

"With the expansion of minimally invasive procedures in pediatrics, we’ve seen an increase in the number of surgeries that do not require an overnight stay," said pediatric anesthesiologist Leila Welborn, MD, Medical Director of Children’s Montgomery County Ambulatory Surgery Center. "Our second OR in Rockville is a result of this trend and enables us to ease the stress that families feel when a child needs surgery."

Children’s National Medical Center’s surgical team includes an entire staff of experienced, fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists, ensuring the highest level of pediatric care for children needing surgery. Children’s is the only institution in the area that can guarantee anesthesia administered by fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists.

Many of Children’s surgical specialties practice in Montgomery County, including General Surgery , Gastroenterology , Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery , Ophthalmology , Otolaryngology (ENT) , Orthopaedic Surgery , and Urology . Children’s Montgomery County Ambulatory Surgery Center is located at 9850 Key West Avenue . To schedule an appointment, call 888-884-2327.
