Pediatric Obesity Symposium - May 20, 2010
Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010
Location: Children’s National Medical Center, 5th Floor Research Atrium
Time: 8:00am - 3:00pm
Overview
The Obesity Institute, since its inception, has been engaged in knowledge sharing and capacity building, as evidenced by the Obesity Institute Inaugural Research Symposium that convened at Children’s National in November 2008 to discuss current clinical, translational, and community-focused pediatric obesity research initiatives at Children’s National. Experts from several medical research disciplines gathered to share ideas, success stories, ongoing challenges, and the future promise of prevention and intervention strategies to fight childhood obesity, both in the District of Columbia and nationwide. Our follow-up symposium will also be held at Children’s National and is scheduled for May 20, 2010 from 8 am-3 pm. It will focus on the obesity-related findings of the recent RAND Corporation pediatric needs-assessment of the District of Columbia that was sponsored by Children’s National Child Health Advocacy Institute. The agenda includes speakers from the RAND Corporation, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) Obesity FOCUS Group. This symposium will continue our tradition of collaboration and will build momentum for the expansion to a 3-day conference.
