Nursing Students

As a nursing student, you might already be craving hands-on experience at a highly respected hospital. You may be thinking about where or with which population you want to work after graduation.

At Children’s, a world-class teaching hospital and internationally-recognized leader in pediatric health, we invite nursing students at all stages of learning to explore the “real world” of working in a hospital setting and experience first-hand the challenges and rewards of this career.

Our longstanding tradition of academic partnerships:
  • As of December 2013 there are over 60 nursing schools affiliated with Children's National in the Washington area, the mid-Atlantic region and around the United States;  offering undergraduate nursing programs,  graduate and practical nursing programs. These affiliates include clinical rotations at Children's for nursing students who are in undergraduate (baccalaureate and associate degree), masters, post-graduate, and practical nursing programs. Visit your school's career services office for more information.
  • A one-year Pediatric Nurse Residency Program for newly graduated registered nurses that builds a concrete knowledge and skill base in pediatric nursing practice. Components of the program include hospital and nursing orientation programs, specialized classes, mentoring   opportunities, a three to six month preceptor-ship program, guided and independent clinical experiences, competency development, professional practice seminars, and consultation clinics. For more information contact Jill Titone Board, nurse recruiter, at 301-244-4831 or or view our frequently asked questions.

The Pediatric Nurse Residency Program is offered twice a year. For 2014 the winter residency groups will start in March and the summer residency groups will start in September/October. Applications are accepted for posted positions in November, December and January of each year for the upcoming winter residency. Applications are accepted for posted positions starting in February for the upcoming summer resdicency. To apply, search our current openings for the RNI or RN I/II positions.
  • Child Care Technician (CCT) Program for nursing students who are at least one-half of the way through their nursing program and have completed a medical/surgical and/or pediatric clinical rotation. This 12- to 14-week paid summer externship includes a four-day orientation, additional clinical orientation to an assigned unit and the opportunity to work closely with a nurse manager, preceptor and supervisor.  As a CCT you will experience what it really is like to be a pediatric nurse and you will be able to complete all the tasks a certified nursing assistant may perform.  For 2014 the program we will have two start dates:  May 27 and June 9.  For more information, please visit our frequently asked questions or contact Jill Titone Board, nurse recruiter at 301-244-4831 or Applications are only accepted for posted positions.  To apply, search our current openings for the Child Care Technician (CCT) positions. We will have a limited number of Child Care Technician (CCT) postions in our primary care clinics posted by the end of February.  We anticipate that there will be additional positions for our inpatient units posted by early April.  Please continue to check the job posting.  Thank you.
