Nursing Students

As a nursing student, you might already be craving hands-on experience at a highly respected hospital. You may be thinking about where or with which population you want to work after graduation.

At Children’s, a world-class teaching hospital and internationally-recognized leader in pediatric health, we invite nursing students at all stages of learning to explore the “real world” of working in a hospital setting and experience first-hand the challenges and rewards of this career.

Children’s has a longstanding tradition of academic partnership that includes:

  • At the beginning of 2009, there are 28 nursing schools affiliated with Children's National in the Washington area, the mid-Atlantic region and around the United States; 20 offering undergraduate nursing programs, 18 graduate and one practical nursing programs. These affiliates include clinical rotations at Children's for nursing students who are in undergraduate (baccalaureate and associate degree), masters, post-graduate, and practical nursing programs. Visit your school's career services office for more information.

  • A one-year Internship Program for new graduates that builds a concrete knowledge and skill base in pediatric nursing practice. Components of the program include hospital and nursing orientation programs, specialized classes, mentoring program, a three to six month preceptorship program, guided and independent clinical experiences, competency development, professional practice seminars, and consultation clinics. For more information contact Jill Titone Board, nurse recruiter, at 202-476-5471 or jtitone@cnmc.org or view our frequently asked questions. To apply, search our current openings for the RNI or RN I/II positions.

  • Pediatric Nursing Scholarship Program for outstanding seniors who hold a minimum 3.0 GPA in an undergraduate program at a college of nursing. This program, launched in 2000 and funded by a grant from The James T. Johnston Trust, pays each recipient between $2,500 and $5,000 and provides clinical learning experiences upon graduation. Recipients must complete 120 hours of a senior clinical/leadership preceptorship experience at Children’s and remain at Children’s for at least one year following successful completion of the state board of nursing licensure examination and nursing Internship program. For an application or more information, contact Miriam Erice, continuing education manager at 202-476-4014 or merice@cnmc.org.

  • Child Care Technician (CCT) Program for nursing students who are at least three-fourths of the way through their nursing program and have completed a medical/surgical and/or pediatric clinical rotation. This 12- to 14-week employment program includes a four-day orientation, additional clinical orientation to an assigned unit and the opportunity to work closely with a nurse manager, preceptor and supervisor. For more information, contact Jill Titone Board, nurse recruiter at 202-476-5471 or jtitone@cnmc.org. To apply, search our current openings for the Child Care Technician (CCT) positions.
