What does "ERP$$$" stand for?
ERP$$$ means that this position is designated for our Employee Referral Bonus. If a current Children’s employee recommended that you apply to Children’s, please make sure to include his or her name on your application. That person is eligible for a referral bonus.
Does Children’s have a New Graduate Nursing Program?
Yes, our New Graduate Nursing Internship program is a one-year program to support new graduate nurses make the transition from student to professional nurse. The program is a mixture of lectures, clinical rotations and professional presentations (by the new nurse). This program is in conjunction with a three to six month one-on-one preceptorship on the new hire’s unit. Most of our units hire new graduate nurses for permanent jobs. To apply for the internship program, look for a posted RN I or RN I/II position in the current openings section of the web site.

What are the qualifications for a patient care technician position?
The patient care technician position requires a high school diploma or GED, as well as formal training as an EMT or CNA and a minimum of one year’s experience in a healthcare setting. Certification is required.

Does Children’s hire licensed practical nurses?
Yes, we hire LPNs in Children’s Outpatient Centers. Available positions are posted online under current openings.

What is the process once I apply?
Once an application is received online, a member of the nurse recruitment staff will review your application. You will receive an electronic notification to inform you if you meet the minimum requirements and your application is being considered.
A manager will contact you directly to set up an interview. After the interview, the manager will give a report of the interview to the nurse recruiter. The nurse recruiter then contacts the candidate with a hiring decision.

What is the difference between an RN I, RN II, RN III, and RN IV position?
The RN I, RN II, RN III, and RN IV describe the various positions on Children’s Clinical Ladder. The RN I is our new graduate position. The RN II is a nurse with at least one year of experience as an RN. The RN III has a minimum of two years experience as an RN. Pediatric experience and a bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN) are preferred. The RN IV has a minimum of two years experience, including pediatric experience, a BSN and certification in an area of specialty.

Does Children’s offer tuition assistance?
Yes, tuition assistance is available to both part-time and full-time eligible registered nurses who have successfully completed a six month probationary period. Eligible registered nurses can receive reimbursement for up to two classes per semester, or a maximum of six classes per year at the University of Maryland’s out-of-state tuition rate. Registered nurses may attend any accredited school or institution.
