Community Service

Nurses at Children’s are highly loyal to the hospital and fully dedicated to our patients and their families. As respected and sought after health experts in the community, many of our nurses go above and beyond the duties that their jobs entail by reaching out and supporting a wide range of national and local causes and organizations.

Their community service involvement varies. Some nurses volunteer at health fairs and Children’s summer camps, while others assist in parish nursing or work with scout troops. Some volunteer at schools while others serve on local boards. Some nurses go on medical mission trips to far away places while others provide leadership for local and national professional nursing organizations.

Whatever ways that they choose to participate, nurses at Children’s are proud to support not only the hospital but the larger communities it serves.

In December 2008, the Magnet Champions sponsored the “Share the Force of Giving” event to collect goods for St. Ann’s Women and Infants Home. St. Ann’s is a program that provides residential care to abused and neglected infants and children and to single, pregnant, and parenting adolescent women in crisis. The Champions asked individuals throughout Children’s National to donate diapers, baby wipes, formula, new clothing for boys and girls 7 to 12 years old, and personal hygiene items for the mothers, infants, and children at St. Ann’s.

Boxes were located in the central staffing office, the central nursing office, and in units throughout the hospital for donations to St. Ann’s. On December 22, several Magnet Champions took four cars full of donations to St. Ann’s. St. Ann’s expressed enormous gratitude for the tremendous support that Children’s National provided.

Children’s employees displayed a strong commitment to the community through their donations this holiday season.
