Mendel Tuchman, MD,  scientific director of Children’s Research Institute at Children’s National and the Mary Elizabeth McGehee Joyce Professor of Pediatrics, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology at George Washington University
Mendel Tuchman, MD
Dr. Tuchman is the scientific director of Children’s Research Institute at Children’s National and the Mary Elizabeth McGehee Joyce Professor of Pediatrics, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology at George Washington University. Dr. Tuchman also has served as the program director of the Children’s National Pediatric GCRC since its inception in 2000, overseeing a period of growth during which the number of protocols has quadrupled. He was also PI of the NCRR-funded Pediatric Clinical Research Scholars Award Program (K12) at Children’s National. He is a translational and clinical investigator with a research laboratory in the Center for Genetic Medicine Research at CRI, and is supported by 3 current R01 grants.

Dr. Tuchman has authored 150 peer-reviewed articles, principally in the clinical and translational research of inborn errors of metabolism. His research has ranged from gene discovery of N-acetyl glutamate synthetase deficiency to performing a longitudinal study and phase I/II trials of an IND.

Executive Director - Kolaleh Eskandanian, PhD, MBA, PMP

Dr. Eskandanian is the director for the Clinical and Translational Research Administration. Since joining Children's in September 2008, she streamlined the GCRC's operations and established the independent arm of the GCRC, the Clinical Trials Unit, to enhance throughput to industry-funded studies and support the operation through chargeback mechanisms.

She holds a doctoral degree in Economic Modeling and Management Science and a MBA. Prior to joining Children's National, she served as the Administrative Director of the Georgetown University-MedStar GCRC from April 2006 to August 2008. She was the lead author of the successful Georgetown University Computerized Adverse Event Reporting (CAER) System. As part of her work with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and Capital Technology Information Service Inc., Dr. Eskandanian assumed profit and loss responsibility for multi million-dollar contracts with clients in government and private sectors. She has a demonstrated record of accomplishments in operations and project management. She is certified as a Project Management Institute Project Management Professional with more than 13 years of experience in the area of management and information technology consulting.
