Doctor Bear®'s University

Experience a day at Children’s National Medical Center, one of the top pediatric hospitals in the United States, through Dr. Bear’s University.

Dr. Bear’s University brings elected officials, business and community leaders and pediatric physicians together in a unique and personal setting. This opportunity allows participants to spend the day involved in several components of our everyday care, including rotations with physicians and observing the special care given to our young patients, to experience first-hand the services offered by one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and express observations throughout the day.

Dr. Bear’s University demonstrates Children’s commitment to:

  • Influencing health policy and planning, public health initiatives and positive pediatric health outcomes.
  • Building healthier communities, raise awareness and understanding of integral health issues impacting children.
  • Demonstrating our interdisciplinary commitment to serving as the leading voice for children.

Since the inception of the program in 2006, more than 50 individuals have participated in the program and witnessed a day-in-the-life at Children’s. This program opens up a dialogue between Children’s staff and participants, allowing for greater understanding and learning about the hospital and how it serves the community. We hope that participants will become advocates for Children’s and pediatric healthcare issues.
