Condolences from our CEO

Our hearts are heavy with grief as we mourn the loss of victims in Newtown, Connecticut. Consistent with our mission as pediatric health care providers, we are dedicated to saving lives, giving young lives a chance at realizing their potential and their dreams. We are a community that lives the value of putting children first, caring for their minds and bodies. It is beyond comprehension that such tragedy could strike an elementary school, also dedicated to nurturing the hearts, minds, and souls of our society’s most vulnerable and most cherished.

It is also the case that our scientists and physicians know the unfortunate truth of nature gone wrong. The mind can betray some children and adults with illness and cause confusion and compromise their ability to realize their own most enlightened potential. We are convinced more than ever, that as part of our mission, we must continue exploring the most complicated frontier in medicine – the mind and the brain. We will honor the memory of those lives lost by engaging in providing the solutions to avoid future loss of this kind.

Equally important to our work on the mind and brain are our efforts on preventing harm to children. I am committed to serve as an advocate to educate our community on the potentially life threatening risks to our nation’s children. It is our responsibility to work with institutions to ensure that sound measures are in place that promise the safety and prevention of harm to kids.

In the name of peace and love for the grieving families, we will strive to be a part of the solution and honor the precious lives lost on December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook School in Newton, Connecticut.

With a saddened heart,

Kurt Newman, MD
