Center for Heart, Lung and Kidney Disease

Executive Director: Gerard R. Martin, MD

The Center for Heart, Lung and Kidney Disease at Children’s National Medical Center offers the region’s largest program and most experienced professionals in pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, pulmonology, sleep medicine, allergy, and nephrology. Each year, more than 16,000 patients are evaluated and treated by the Center in our dedicated outpatient, inpatient and intensive care units, as well as our regional outpatient centers.

Our comprehensive services include cutting-edge diagnostic services, minimally invasive and traditional surgery, and heart and kidney transplantation for children of all ages — from neonates to young adults. We treat the entire range of heart, lung, allergy, and kidney diseases using a multispecialty approach to care. Our team is made up of dedicated pediatric specialists, including cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, pulmonologists, intensivists, nephrologists, electrophysiologists, allergists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and sleep medicine specialists who together determine the optimum treatment of each patient. Nurse practioners, pediatric nurses, technicians, social workers, nutritionists, and psychologists also play a critical role on the team.

The Center for Heart, Lung and Kidney Disease includes the following divisions:
