Children's Pediatricians & Associates' (CP&A) mission is to provide high-quality care and services to enhance the health and well being of children and adolescents. Our purpose is accomplished through a mutually beneficial and positive relationship with Children's National Medical Center (CNMC). Under experienced physician and management leadership, CP&A shall remain financially stable and maintain the highest ethical standards so that we may strengthen the physician-patient relationship through continuity of care, patient education and advocacy, and practice management.

Our Philosophy and Culture
Doctors Smith & Guarinello are board-certified Pediatricians, specializing in the care of infants, children and adolescents. Aileen Raulin and Mary Flynn are certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, with many years of experience in providing primary care. They are especially skilled in infant care, child care and parent education. Patients are not assigned to any one doctor, so that we may get to know all of our patients, and so that our patients and their families may also get to know us. We prefer to practice preventive pediatrics, and periodic routine physical examinations are encouraged. These visits provide each child with a thorough evaluation of health concerns, and allow us to monitor growth and development. Immunizations, routine blood and urine tests, and other screening procedures are also done. Please feel free to ask any questions during the examination.

Our History
In 1957, Dr. Hoeck, former Chairman of Pediatrics at Gallinger Hospital (DC General), started this pediatric practice in his home in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland. The practice has been in continuous operation since that time, now serving its third generation of children in Southern Maryland. In 1979, Drs. Smith and Guarinello joined the thriving practice at its Clinton location. In 1985, a second office was opened in Waldorf. In 1995, the Clinton office moved to Upper Marlboro. Over the years, we have been blessed with an outstanding staff of caring individuals who have helped countless children and their parents in Southern Maryland.
In February 1998, the Pediatric Professional Association formerly affiliated with Children's National Medical Center to establish the first pediatric practice in the new Children's Pediatricians and Associates corporation as a subsidiary of CNMC. The practice continues its tradition established in 1957 of providing the very best in pediatric care.

Urgent Care
We realize children may become ill at any time. One of us is always available for emergency calls. If needed, please contact us at 301-870-3322. The doctor "on call" will respond promptly.
We may advise you to make an office appointment for the following day, or we may advise you to have you child seen by a physician at the nearest emergency facility. In such cases, the emergency room doctor should contact us.

Accepted Health Plans
At Drs. Smith & Guarinello, we participate in many managed care plans, and see patients with traditional insurance. Many plans require that you make a copayment at the time of your visit. To make it as easy as possible for you, we accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards at our offices.
Some insurance plans may require that you get authorization from them before you visit us. Since this differs by plan, please check with your insurance company so you can receive complete benefits from your coverage. We also have trained in-house specialists who can answer many of your insurance questions.
