 Having Surgery at Children's - Support Services
Concierge Services
To ensure our families receive the personal attention they deserve, Concierge Services offers families one point of contact to facilitate their non-medical needs. This is particularly important for families who may be coming from out of town. Concierge Services can help:

  • Make hotel accommodations
  • Make transportation arrangements
  • Provide emergency toiletries for parents
  • Provide maps and directions
  • Provide menus for take out and/or making dinner reservations
  • Provide hospital tours
  • Provide directions to Guest Accommodation Hotel (hotel located in Washington Hospital Center)
  • Arrange dry cleaning and laundry services
  • Provide access to business support services such as notary, email, fax, copying, etc.
  • Provide books and magazines
  • Provide newspapers (based on availability)
  • Coordinate and escort families to multiple clinic appointments
  • Coordinate visits to many area attractions in the DC area

Surgery Concierge Services are available Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4 pm. Call (202) 476-6160.

Child Life Services
Child Life specialists can provide psychological preparation for medical procedures, as well as emotional support before, during and after treatment. Children’s Child Life specialists are specially trained and certified to provide therapeutic play experiences and to help children, adolescents, and families understand and cope with illness, treatment, and hospitalization.

Language Services
Children’s National is committed to assisting with communication between patients and families who may be deaf, hard of hearing, or who may not speak English as their first language. Interpreters are available for patients and families at no cost, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, for as long as the patient or family needs assistance. If you and/or your child will need such help during the child’s surgery, call (202) 476-5444, Monday-Friday, 8 am - 11:30 pm.
