MACCHE Services
The Mid-Atlantic Center for Children’s Health and the Environment is a Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit serving the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Services offered by MACCHE include:
A. Telephone and Clinical Consultations:
Parents, physicians, nurses, departments of public health, and others can contact MACCHE toll-free at 1-866-622-2431 for questions or concerns about environmental health. Clinical consultations are also available at Children’s National Medical Center for children with health problems that may be related to their environment.
B. Health Education:
In an effort to increase the knowledge and awareness of children’s environmental health issues among pediatricians and other health care providers, the physicians and environmental health experts in MACCHE speak at hospital grand rounds and other ongoing seminars. They also promote awareness of environmental health hazards by conducting specific seminars to educate academic medical and nursing faculty as well as recruit pediatric sub-specialists to assist in development of specialty-specific environmental health information.
C. Resource Guide:
As part of the educational component, MACCHE provides access to an organized library that includes a collection of comprehensive electronic materials that may prove beneficial to improving the knowledge of the community on children’s environmental health. The MACCHE also develops training materials and disseminates authoritative information on children’s health and the environment to practitioners, public health officials, parents, and others concerned in the region.
