Work Hours & Call

Children’s National monitors resident duty hours and call frequency to ensure compliance with all ACGME requirements. With the creation of the Night Team at Children’s National, interns only have 1 block rotation (NICU) where they are on every 4th night (“Q4”) call. All other inpatient rotations for interns are covered by the Night Team, which significantly reduces the number of 24- hour calls our residents work. On an inpatient rotation, interns work an average of 2-3 weekends.
