Gastroenterology Fellowship

Overview

The Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition fellowship at Children’s National received ACGME accreditation in late 2010 and our first fellow started in July, 2011.  The fellowship provides a rich and varied experience because its many service, educational, advocacy and research opportunities.  Children’s Nations is a 300 bed free-standing children’s hospital which provides services for the metropolitan DC area and we frequently care for referral patients from the mid-Atlantic region, the nation and many international patients.  This ensures a very busy and diverse in-patient, out-patient and procedure experience.

The educational and research parts of the Program are especially strengthened by iour partnership with the CNMC Sheikh Zayed Research Institute for Surgical Innovation, the CNMC Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the Pediatric Intestinal and Liver Transplant Program at Georgetown University, and close links with allied agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.

Our fellows training will include 17 clinical months and 19 research months, divided over the three year fellowship.  Please see the Block Diagrams below.
