The Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Training Program at Children’s National Medical Center is approved by the ACGME and involves clinical, academic, and research training over a 36 month period. Fellows benefit from the vast expertise of and dedicated teaching by faculty from the Division of Cardiology as well as the other programs within the Children’s National Heart Institute.
The CNHI is a multidisciplinary team comprising Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiac Intensive Care, and Cardiac Anesthesia. It is a national and international referral center and is the largest congenital heart program in the mid-Atlantic region. Significant milestones in our recent history include the addition of world-class faculty such as Richard Jonas, MD; David Wessel, MD; and Charles Berul, MD,; the opening of the East Inpatient Tower in 2007, the new Cardiology Clinic and Echocardiography Laboratory in 2010, and the 26-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in December of 2011; and the strengthening of our relationships with the National Institutes of Health and the Washington Hospital Center. This year, we have restarted our heart transplantation program and will open our third cardiac catheterization lab with interventional MRI capabilities.
