Program Information
The Pediatric Nephrology fellowship at CNMC consists of three years of formal training. Of these, the first year is devoted to rigorous inpatient and out-patient clinical service. One month of the first year is provided for “research interest development”, so that the fellow can get an overview of research being conducted in the Nephrology Research Laboratories under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Jose and Dr. Patricio Ray. The fellow is expected to develop research projects for completion in years two and three, with guidance of his/her mentor. Although second and third year of fellowship are almost entirely devoted to research endeavors, continuity clinic, on call clinical service and a few months on inpatient service are all designed to allow the fellow to keep developing his/her clinical skills. While didactic lectures (called Core Curriculum Lectures) by the faculty build the clinical knowledge base for the nephrology fellows, self-study and participation in discussions during conferences, journal club, and case management are regarded as the essential avenues of knowledge acquisition.
