Advances in Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference

Overview and Description: 
This conference will provide participants with updates and current knowledge on selected topics concerning the care of acutely ill pediatric patients. A series of didactic lectures will be presented during the morning session, while a practical workshop on the management of pediatric burns will be presented in the afternoon. Upon completion of this program, participants will be well-informed of the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment, and comprehend the clinical skills necessary in pediatric emergency medicine in the following topics:
  • Understand the latest approaches to the management principals for children in mass casualty and disaster scenarios.
  • Understand the role of pediatric simulation in emergency department education and skill development related to patient care.
  • Discuss available mobile technology and electronic patient education relevant to emergency care providers.
  • Discuss the approach and management of pediatric patients with a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Become familiar with the latest changes and new algorithms of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Become familiar with research updates and current practice principals for children suspected of having traumatic brain injury.
  • Increase knowledge of pediatric burn care in the emergency department.

Holy Cross Hospital is accredited by the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 6.2 hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

NURSING
This activity is designated for 6.2 contact hours by the Holy Cross Hospital Division of Nursing, Center for Continuing Education, which is accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
