Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is Children’s National accredited to provide CME credits?
A: Yes. Children’s National Medical Center is accredited by ACCME to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Q: Is every educational activity held at Children’s National awarded CME credits?
A: No. Only those activities approved by the CME Office can receive CME credits. You can verify if an activity has been approved by the office of CME if it carries our accreditation statement. Here is a generic version of our accreditation statement:
“This activity was planned and implemented in accordance to the Essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Children’s National Medical Center is accredited by ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Children’s designates this educational activity for a maximum of XYZ AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.”
Q: I have an idea for a CME course. What do I need to do to get CME credits
for it?
A: The first step in obtaining CME credit is completing the Initial CME Application below. The CME Office requires six months notice for new CME activities. Once we receive your application we will make an initial determination on the suitability of your activity for accreditation and set up a meeting with you if your meets any of the following criteria:
1. Must be pediatric in nature
2. Must be firmly based on the educational needs of practicing physicians (MDs, DOs, or PAs)
3. Contains no commercial bias
Q: What is the process to obtain CME credits for my activity?
A:
1. Complete and return the initial application
2. Meet with CME Office
3. Agree to the CME Service Agreement
4. Complete a Needs Assessment and set Learning Objectives
5. Collect paperwork from speakers and commercial support providers
6. Create activity forms (sign-in sheets, evaluations)
7. Hold your activity
8. Account for revenues and expenses
9. Evaluate the success of the activity in achieving the proposed learning objectives
10. Track outcomes over the mid-to-longterm
