Biography

Sarah Rebstock, MD, is a fellowship trained pediatric anesthesiologist, director of the Pediatric Pain Medicine Outpatient Clinic and Complex Pain Medicine, and principal investigator at the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. The multi-disciplinary Pediatric Pain Medicine Outpatient Clinic treats children with complex pain, from urgent pain crises to long term management of pain symptoms. The clinic engages all areas of pain medicine, from anesthesia to psychology and physical therapy to develop individualized treatment plans comprised of alternative and traditional pain medicine interventions, as well as psychological support when needed based on each child’s unique needs. Her research work includes translating findings from innovative research into the neuropathology of pain, which is currently underway in the Pain Medicine Initiative at the Sheikh Zayed Institute, to improve pain treatments for children. She is the author of 33 publications and presentations relating to the treatment of pain in children ranging in age from prenatal to adult. Dr. Rebstock is actively involved in developing pain medicine educational programs for pediatric caregivers, including nurses, residents, and other pediatric clinicians. Prior to joining Children’s National, Dr. Rebstock was director of the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship in the department of anesthesiology as well as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and pediatrics at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She was responsible for the creation of the first pediatric pain medicine clinic at that institution.
