Biography

Pranava Sinha, MD, joined Children’s National Heart Institute at Children’s National Medical Center in September 2008. He joined the Children’s National Heart Institute team as a fellow in pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery in June 2007. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Grant Medical College, University of Mumbai, India. After his cardiothoracic residency there he further trained in the specialty at St. Thomas’s Hospital in London, UK, and at Boston Medical Center and Boston University. He achieved numerous awards during his training, both in India as well as the UK and Boston. He obtained the gold medal in cardiothoracic surgery for first position in the National Board of Examinations in India in 2003. He achieved multiple distinctions during his medical school training in India. In the research arena, Dr. Sinha has undertaken clinical research studies which have led both to abstract presentations as well as publications. His report to the Congenital Heart Surgeons Society in November 2009 regarding the use of cryopreserved femoral vein homografts was the first report of clinical application of the femoral vein in congenital cardiac surgery. Dr. Sinha has also participated in an ongoing laboratory research project which is examining the role of glutaraldehyde in causing calcification of cardiac bioprostheses using a subcutaneous rat model implant. Dr. Sinha is also designing a research study to examine the potential role of an axial pump as a ventricular assist device for patients with a Fontan type circulation.
