Driving Directions: From points south:
  • I-270 North towards Frederick
  • Take exit 8, stay in left lane
  • Turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Stay in the left-hand lane
  • After crossing over I-270, turn left at second light onto Corporate Boulevard
  • Take the first or second left turn into the parking area.
    You will want to enter the building at the South Entrance (the end of the building closest to the parking lot entrance). When inside the lobby, take the elevator to the Third Floor. As you exit the elevator, our office will be immediately to your left.
From points west:
  • I-270 South
  • Take exit 8 for Shady Grove Road
  • Stay in the left of the two right-hand turn lanes
  • After turning right onto Shady Grove Road, get in the far left lane and make a left onto Corporate Boulevard at the first light
  • Take the first or second left turn into the parking area

Biography

Maureen Monaghan, PhD, is a clinical and pediatric psychologist with specialization in child and adolescent adjustment to illness and adherence to medical regimens. Dr. Monaghan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Center for Translational Science. She supervises psychology services for youth with chronic illness and their families and provides outpatient therapy services at the Northern Virginia Regional Outpatient Center. Dr. Monaghan specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with diabetes; she also has expertise in treatment of behavioral sleep disorders. Dr. Monaghan is particularly interested in helping adolescents and young adults with diabetes adjust and adapt to new settings and adhere to their daily medical regimen, while also promoting optimal quality of life.

Dr. Monaghan is an active clinical researcher and is committed to a multidisciplinary research program exploring adjustment to illness and ways to promote adherence in adolescents with type 1 diabetes. She is a funded investigator in the area of executive function and health outcomes in young adults with type 1 diabetes. Dr. Monaghan has multiple publications in the area of child health. Her long-term goal is to establish a strong research program promoting adherence, adjustment, and quality of life in youth with chronic illnesses.
