Biography

Dr. Wright provides leadership for the organization’s advocacy mission, public policy positions and community partnership initiatives. He is a Professor and Vice Chairman in the Department of Pediatrics, as well a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Health Policy at the George Washington University Schools of Medicine and Public Health. He has been attending faculty in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children’s National since 1993, and is founding director of the division’s Institute for Prehospital Pediatrics and Emergency Research. He provides national leadership as an appointee to the inaugural National EMS Advisory Council and as senior investigator and medical director of the federally-funded Emergency Medical Services for Children National Resource Center based at Children’s National. Dr. Wright’s major areas of interest include emergency medical services for children, injury prevention and the needs of underserved communities, areas in which he has contributed over 70 articles to the scientific literature. He has received the Shining Star award from the Starlight Foundation, and was inducted into Delta Omega, the nation’s public health honor society. Dr. Wright presently serves as a federal appointee on the Food and Drug Administration’s Pediatric Advisory Committee and is also active in leadership in the American Academy of Pediatrics where he is immediate past chair of the Violence Prevention subcommittee. Dr. Wright has delivered expert testimony before Congress on many occasions, has made numerous national media appearances and lectures widely to both professional and lay audiences.
