Disaster Volunteer Opportunities by State

The purpose of this interactive map is to provide health care professionals interested in volunteering a resource to identify disaster volunteer agencies in their state. The map is color-coded red, white, dark blue, and light blue.  The color of the state is determined by the number of federally-declared disasters and or emergencies in 2008. As you click on the desired state, agencies recruiting volunteers will be listed in alphabetical order along with the type of health care volunteers needed and any required training and certifications.  Volunteer applications for each agency are provided.

Due to the concern with liability issues when volunteering, the Federal Emergency Management Agency funded the non-profit organization Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI) to develop the Citizens Corps Volunteer Liability Guide. This guide provides a summary of each state’s statutory provision and links to the websites of each states's complete statutory regulation. Please note that this is not an attempt by PERI or the EMSC National Resource Center to provide legal advice.

Note that all information was obtained using publicly available data from state and federal websites. Any comments, additions, or corrections are welcomed and should be submitted to Jaclynn Haymon.
