EMSC Legislation

In 1984, under Section 1910 of the Public Health Service Act, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation authorizing the development of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program. Its purpose is to ensure that all ill and injured children and adolescents receive state-of-the-art emergency care, including primary prevention, prehospital care, emergency care, acute care, and rehabilitation. Information on the Program's statutory authority and funding can be found below.

In addition, the EMSC National Resource Center (NRC) maintains information on EMSC-related state and territory statutes and regulations. States and territories may use these statutes and regulations as examples of law-authorizing activities related to the EMSC performance measures. For more information, contact the NRC at 202-476-4927 or emscinformation@cnmc.org.
