Children’s National Medical Center’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program offers comprehensive care to children, adolescents and their families with Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. One of the nation’s premier programs, Children’s IBD Program offers pediatric experts who are at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field. Children’s is part of a national registry for children with IBD that has enrolled more than 1,000 children.
Children’s IBD Clinic treats patients with the following conditions:
- Crohn disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Indeterminate colitis
- Other Inflammatory Conditions of the Intestine:
- Bechet’s
- Vasculitis
- Allergic Enteropathy
Children’s IBD Program offers consultations for new patients, children requiring second opinions, and follow-up care for those already enrolled in the program. Children’s provides a full spectrum of the latest and most effective treatment modalities and carefully monitors progress to maintain remissions and ensure optimal growth, nutrition, bone health, and emotional well being. Children’s IBD Program can also provide medications ranging from standard drugs to the latest biological agents, such as Remicade.
Children’s IBD Program has a dedicated nurse coordinator that provides support for patients and their families. The IBD Program team includes pediatric gastroenterologists, radiologists, nutritionists, and nurse practitioners with expertise in inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, a parent advisory board provides insight and feedback for the program.
