Hospitalist Program at Health Services for Children (HSC) Pediatric Center
Health Services for Children (HSC) Pediatric Center is the only pediatric health care facility in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area dedicated exclusively to providing rehabilitation and transitional care to children and young people from infancy through 21 years of age. HSC is one of only 20 facilities nationwide to offer such services.
Since July 2005, Children’s National Medical Center has provided all medical staff services at HSC, including inpatient hospitalists and specialty consultations. This collaboration provides immediate benefits through:
- Improved continuity of care and communication with the transferring patient care team both verbally and through the electronic medical record
- Increased efficiency of patient transfers, which include patient transfers after 4 pm, on weekends/holidays, and same day transfers
- Doubled monthly admissions to HSC, while breaking institutional records for admissions per month
- Decreased Preemie Unit LOS by 33 percent, which is less than National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) benchmark data
- Increased family satisfaction of medical care provided at HSC
- Departments & Programs - Children's National Medical Center
