Spina Bifida Program
Children with deformities of the spine that lead to deformities of the spinal cord and children with other anomalies of the spinal cord often have multiple problems that require the expertise of a multidisciplinary team. The Spina Bifida Program at Children’s National Medical Center is a leader in caring for the infants, children and young adults with these disorders. Each year, we treat more than 600 patients with all levels of severity of Spina Bifida. The Spina Bifida program seeks to promote prevention and early recognition to minimize complications to newborns and children as they mature with these disorders.
We bring together physicians from a number of specialties, so patients and families can be evaluated and advised comprehensively on the same day by all members of the care team, which includes specialists in:
