Children’s Research Institute boasts world-renowned faculty members that excel in translational medicine, taking the research from the labs on the top floors of the hospital to the clinical floors below. Children’s multidisciplinary approach to research and medicine allows for scientists in different research centers to study specific areas of interest. With this collaboration, scientists are able to make cutting-edge discoveries and strides in the studies of childhood diseases.
Research in the Division of Neonatology includes the effect of low oxygen on brain blood vessels and their reactivity after low oxygen levels; the effect of cooling on brain function as measured by continuous EEG monitoring; correlation of brain oxygen levels to disease states; nutritional needs of premature infants, relationship to varying fatty acid use; and the effect of ECMO on the brain. The medical and nursing leadership teams collaborate on clinical safety-related research to reduce blood stream infections and IV infiltration.
