Leukemia/Lymphoma Program
The Leukemia/Lymphoma Program at Children’s National Medical Center is composed of a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and scientists who conduct clinical trials, perform research to identify cancer causes, and pioneer treatments and cures. The program participates in clinical trials sponsored by cooperative groups that study novel treatments for childhood leukemia and lymphoma such as The Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a clinical trial cooperative group supported by the National Cancer Institute. As a result, Children’s leukemia and lymphoma patients have access to the most current therapies in the treatment of pediatric cancer.
The Leukemia/Lymphoma Program currently treats more than 50 patients and follows approximately 200 patients participating in clinical trials. The program sees leukemia and lymphoma patients with:
- Acute lymphoblastic (lymphoblastic) leukemia (ALL)
- Acute myelogenous (myeloblastic) leukemia (AML)
- Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL)
- Hodgkin lymphoma
- Infant leukemia
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
In addition, the Patient and Family Support Program provides comprehensive mental health and psychosocial services and helpful resources for all patients treated in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, as well as patients’ parents and siblings.
