The evaluation of pediatric airway disorders is one of the specialties of the Division of Otolaryngology at Children’s National Medical Center. Headed by George Zalzal, MD, an international authority on airway reconstruction, the team evaluates and manages pediatric patients with varying degrees of airway disorders. The Airways Clinic treats children not only from the Washington, DC, area, but also from around the country and the world.
As airway abnormalities are often unique for each patient, Children’s physicians are skilled at expertly evaluating and managing each patient on an individual basis. A consultation includes a complete evaluation of the upper aero-digestive tract as well as a discussion of the potential options for treatment.

subglottic stenosis, a narrowing of the airway below the voice box
problems associated with tracheotomies, surgical procedures performed
on the neck to open a direct airway through an incision in the trachea (windpipe)
