Children’s National Heart Institute
Children’s Outpatient Cardiology team provides services throughout a network of systems in 20 different locations across the region, spanning from Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore to St. Mary’s, Maryland, and from Leesburg, Virginia, to Hagerstown, Maryland.
Children’s National Heart Institute has more than 14,000 outpatient visits each year. With continued expansion of our presence in the Regional Outpatient Centers, we now see more than 60 percent of our outpatient visits in the community close to the families’ homes.
Services Provided at Children’s Outpatient Locations
Each facility is equipped with state-of-the-art electrocardiography and echocardiography
technology to support a complete evaluation of patients. Children’s National Heart Institute provides an extensive range of evaluation services for children and adults with congenital heart disease at outpatient locations, including:
Each clinic is staffed by a board-certified pediatric cardiologist, cardiac nurse and pediatric echocardiography technologist. To assist families and physicians’ offices, a nurse triage line is available for patient care questions and advice Monday through Friday from 8 am until 4:30 pm. Additionally, families may call our prescription line for medication refills. Specialty nurses are available Monday through Friday to handle issues such as heart rhythm, Coumadin, syncope, transplantation, PA hypertension, cardiovascular surgical, and adult congenital heart disease questions.
