Established in 1970, the Donald Delaney Eating Disorders Clinic is dedicated to the specialized care of preadolescent and adolescent (ages 10-21 years) patients with suspected eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating. The Clinic treats more than 100-newly diagnosed eating disorder outpatients each year.
The Eating Disorder Clinic’s highly-qualified multidisciplinary team includes experts in psychology, medicine, and nutrition located in one convenient Spring Valley satellite location.
Services include:
- Initial evaluation and diagnosis of eating disorders
- Individual psychotherapy
- Parent counseling
- Group therapy
- Medical evaluation and monitoring
- Nutritional counseling
- Inpatient hospitalization (if necessary)
- Referral to other hospital specialists (if needed)
- Coordination with outside doctors, therapists, and nutritionists
Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment plans are completed over the course of a few visits and may include diagnostic interviews with the patient and parents, self-report questionnaires, and medical examinations. The frequency of visits is determined by the severity of illness, but most patients begin treatment on a weekly basis and taper that schedule as the condition improves.
Urgent medical assessments can be obtained through the hospital’s Adolescent Medicine walk-in clinic, which is located at the main hospital. Parents of infants or young children with feeding disorders should contact Irene Chatoor MD, director of the Feeding Disorders Clinic at 202-476-2089.Parents of children or adolescents with obesity should contact the IDEAL Obesity Clinic at 202-476-3948.
