Center for Prenatal Evaluation
The Center for Prenatal Evaluation at Children's National Medical Center provides advanced care for fetuses with known or suspected abnormalities. The Center offers consultation with renowned specialists representing a wide range of disciplines, access to revolutionary technologies and an extensive, compassionate support network for families of a high-risk fetus.
The Center for Prenatal Evaluation is the only program of its type within the Washington-Baltimore region. Since its inception in 1989, the Center has worked closely with hundreds of families and their physicians to improve outcomes in pregnancies identified with malformations and genetic disorders.
The Center for Prenatal Care is a family-centered program. It offers access to all the pediatric specialists at Children’s National Medical Center and is the starting point for a continuum of care that extends from prenatal evaluation through infancy and childhood and beyond.
The Center sees approximately 400 patients each year, employing the most advanced diagnostic imaging techniques, fetal testing and treatments. Communication and collaboration are central to successful outcomes. With that in mind, the patient’s primary obstetric care providers and perinatologists receive written and telephone reports with specific recommendations to help supplement their patient’s ongoing care. The Children’s team works with the family and their obstetrician and perinatologist to plan for appropriate prenatal, delivery and postnatal services, ensuring a seamless continuum of care.
