The Division of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology’s physicians are board-certified by the American Board of Radiology with added qualifications in pediatric radiology, interventional, fetal, cardiac, and neurological radiology. Nurses in the division receive specialized training to care for the particular health needs of children, including sedation procedures. Children’s technologists expertly work with children and know how to reduce anxiety while obtaining high-quality images.
Although radiology exams for adults and children have the same name, pediatric patients require a different approach. Our expert radiologists, technologists, and nurses specialize in providing family-centered care to all age groups, always understanding that kids are not small adults. Radiology equipment and ancillary devices are adapted to handle all ages and sizes. Our pediatric radiologists ensure that we use the lowest radiation dose possible while providing excellent image quality. Our administrative staff uses a convenient scheduling system for all exams and ensures that your child’s test results are returned to your physician as quickly as possible.
Children’s is one of the few radiology programs in the United States with physicists on staff. These physicists ensure patient safety through careful monitoring of the division’s machinery. One of the physicists supervises radiation safety on all x-ray machines and answers parents’ questions about the radiation dose associated with a particular exam, especially for patients that need many x-rays in a short time period. Children’s other physicist is solely dedicated to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), ensuring that the MRI exam makes optimal utilization of modern imaging techniques.
